Teaching Style

Johara has been teaching the art of belly dance in the greater Boston area for over 20 years.  Her repertoire includes Egyptian, Turkish, American Cabaret belly dance, Middle Eastern folk dances, Vintage Style, and tribal fusion. But Johara has also studied many different styles of dance over the years.  Because of her experience, students have the opportunity to learn different styles of belly dance and expand their technique, repertoire, and artistry. Johara believes in being rooted in a strong foundation of traditional Middle Eastern dance but also exploring other dance styles to cultivate self-expression and creativity. As a musician, drummer, and percussionist - Johara also shares her musicality and knowledge of Middle Eastern rhythms with her dance students.

Student Performance Opportunities

Many of Johara's students have participated in performances at local festivals and events and have also been a part of  her grand scale theatrical productions featuring several of Johara's original choreographies.  Some of Johara's intermediate and advanced students have also become featured performers and members of her company, Snake Dance Theater.

Former Students

Johara has trained some of Boston’s top belly dancers, many of whom have achieved distinction as Middle Eastern dance performers and instructors. Two of her students passed auditions to join the internationally acclaimed Bellydance Superstars and one of her former students, Lauren Michelle Boldt also toured with Club Belly Dance. Many of her students have won dance competitions, performed in her professional theater productions and have gone on to pursue dance professionally.
